FAQ

The things people ask us.

If something is not here, write to us and we will answer it and then add it.

The coffee

Is it ground or whole bean?

Either. Whole bean is the default, because coffee starts losing what makes it good within minutes of grinding. If you would rather not grind it yourself, choose Ground in the buy box and it is ground at the mill on the day it is roasted, for the same price.

Which roast should I get?

Light keeps the most origin character. Medium is the everyday middle and the safest first order. Dark is deep and bittersweet. Espresso is a medium-dark roast built to hold up under pressure, not a different bean.

What is the difference between the Zambia and the Uganda?

The Zambia comes off one farm, Living Hope, and is washed and dried in the shade. The Uganda is grown in Bududa at over 4,200 feet, where altitude slows the cherry down. Both are hand-picked. If you want a place to start, take the Zambia light or medium and the Uganda medium or dark.

How fresh is it?

Nothing is roasted until it is ordered. Your bags go into the roaster the same week they ship.

Orders and shipping

How long does it take?

Most orders leave within two business days of being roasted, shipping from California.

What sizes can I get?

One, two and five pound bags in the shop. Twenty pounds at the bottom of the shop page and on the wholesale page, which arrives as four five-pound bags rather than one sack.

Is a bigger bag cheaper per pound?

No. Every size is the same price per pound, so a bigger bag saves you reordering, not money. The one exception is the twenty pound on a subscription, which takes five percent off.

What does shipping cost?

It is calculated at checkout on our Shopify store, before you pay anything, based on where it is going. Larger orders often ship better per pound than you would expect.

What if something is wrong with my order?

Write to us and we will make it right. Include your order number and we will sort it with the roastery.

Where does checkout happen?

On our Shopify store. When you add coffee to your cart you land there, and your order is credited to this label automatically.

Coffee Club

How does the subscription work?

Choose a roast and size, then pick every month or every two weeks instead of Once. It arrives roasted that week. More about the Coffee Club.

Can I cancel or change it?

Yes, any time, from your account on the Shopify store. You can change the roast, change the size, skip a delivery, or stop entirely.

Is the subscription discounted?

The twenty pound size carries five percent off on a subscription. The smaller sizes are the same price whether you order once or every month. We would rather keep the everyday price low for everyone.

The work

Where does the money go?

This is Wholeness Journey’s own coffee label. What it earns funds the healing retreats and workshops we run for survivors of human trafficking, in the United States, Costa Rica, Thailand, Guatemala, Colombia and Spain.

Who roasts it?

Fourth Man Roasters, in California. They buy the lots direct, roast every order, and ship it. We put our name on it because the coffee is genuinely good, not as a favour.

Do you run the shelters?

No. We partner with organizations that house and protect survivors, and we bring the healing work: art therapy, storytelling, movement, and identity work. Safety is the floor. It was never meant to be the ceiling.

Can I be involved beyond buying coffee?

Yes. Retreats, facilitator training and volunteer trips all live at wholenessjourney.org, or write to thewholenessjourney@gmail.com.
